As a homeowner, there may be nothing worse than realizing you have a mold infestation. Don’t think that just because you’ve build a new home that you’re in the clear – mold spores are not prejudice on how old a home is! If you aren’t sure whether or not you have a mold colony, below are a few tell-tale warning signs.
What’s that smell? Ever wonder what that musty, pungent smell is every time you step into the bathroom or descend your basement stairs? Mold more often than not has a very unique odor that is an unmistakable sign of a large colony. Once you detect the smell, try to find the source. There could be a large underlying problem such as mold within the walls which will require a remediation expert.
If looks could kill. The look of mold is enough to strike fear in the heart of any homeowner, but don’t fret – at least you have identified the source of the mold. Usually bathrooms or windowsills are the most common places to spot those dark colonies. Mold can vary in color, but look for grey, green, or black mold.
Feeling under the weather. Some species of mold won’t bother you physically, but others such as toxic mold can be detrimental to your health. If you or other people in your household experience symptoms such as watery eyes, sneezing, or respiratory issues, you could very well have a mold problem. Conduct an experiment and see whether or not those symptoms go away when you leave the house.
